Speaker biographies

Dr Mike Goldsmith, occupational physician and founder and executive chairman of Medigold Health Consultancy.
Mike has pioneered a number of initiatives in the private medicine sector and specialised in the provision of cost effective medicine within both the private and NHS sectors. He also writes on healthcare and is a senior fellow at the Adam Smith Institute. He is also the honorary president of the Commercial Occupational Health Providers Association (COHPA), which is the industry trade body.

Jackie Gittins, director for PriceWaterhouseCoopers Human Resources Services Business
 Jackie is responsible for HR strategy effectiveness and talent management. She specialises in delivering business goals through employee engagement with public sector and blue chip organisations. Jackie also leads PWC’s wellnessfunction. Previously, Jackie led the PwC human capital team and. helped transform its global talent recruitment policy for the next generation. During this time, PwC was voted the Times Top 100 Graduate Employer five years running. In addition, Jackie worked closely with the PwC Board to develop and deliver the organisation’s people agenda.

Ian Lynch, coach and project manager, The Happiness Project
 
Ian is a presenter, coach, keynote speaker and project manager for the Happiness Project which promotes happiness and well being at work.  Clients include BBC, British Telecom , The Body Shop and the Football Association. The work of The Happiness Project was featured in the BBC TV QED documentary called “How to be Happy”. He has featured on BBC One’s Breakfast Show, Channel 5 News and The Richard Bacon Show and conducted a ‘Laughter Surgery’ workshop for the Anne Diamond show.
  
Paul Avis, corporate development manager and James Slater, consultant manager at HR consultancy CeridianLifeworks 
Paul and James are driving the evolution of product development at Ceridian LifeWorks and moving the business away from being a pure EAP, health risk and absence management provider into an integrated provider of health and productivity solutions. Their skills base ranges from absence policy drafting, line management training, service and benefits design for employers right through to cutting edge health coaching and leadership schemes.
  
Dr Peter Mills, chief medical officer, Vielife 
Peter trained in medicine at the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine. He is an accredited specialist in respiratory diseases and practices medicine on a part-time basis at the Whittington Hospital in north London. In 1999, he co-founded Encyclomedica, a company specialising in the development of online multi-media health content. Encyclomedica were acquired by vielife in 2000. Peter has extensive experience designing and implementing clinical studies for academic institutions and for the pharmaceutical industry and continues his research interests in the area of health promotion and health behaviour change.
 
David Whincup, partner Hammonds’ London office and head of human capital(employment) 
David’s expertise covers recruitment issues, drafting contracts of employment at all levels, disciplinary and grievance procedures, redundancies at individual and collective levels, and the defence of employee discrimination claims and other litigation.  Non-contentious experience includes all employment aspects of corporate transactions, advising on TUPE and indemnities and union-related matters. He also speaks and writes regularly on employment matters and is a member of the editorial board and chapter author with Croner. Dean Patterson, health and productivity manager, Unilever 
Dean is a medical biological scientist with a background in South African industry, where he developed and implemented employee return to work programmes to assist on the job productivity, absence and injury improvements.  He joined Unilever as a biokineticist in 2002, and became Dean became global health and productivity manager in 2007. He reports to the head of corporate occupational health, and his aim is to assist and integrate the speciality of employee health programmes and vitality into the strategic and operational activities in Unilever's regional businesses.
 
 
Mick Forrest, assistant director, people and performance, Tameside MBC 
Mick plays a lead role in the HR department at the council, and has worked for Tameside MBC across all council services and provides HR support to over 100 schools.  Mick has also spoken at the Middle East HR Summit in Dubai for the last three years on issues ranging from "How HR qualifies for a seat at the Top Table" to "enhancing employee performance"  The Audit Commission have rated Tameside four star "improving strongly" putting it in the top five percent nationally and making it the "best in the North-West". Mick's team provide HR Services for a 9000 strong workforce.
