The day will be led by Simon Marsh (Director of Employment Relations) at Chemical Industries Association and run with the aid of a Vince Toman (Barrister) and Sean Dempsey (Solicitor) from employment law firm Lewis Silkin.

Speakers
 

Simon Marsh has been Director of Chemical Industries Association since 2002.  He initially held the brief for employment relations but earlier this year that was expanded to cover the Association’s communications portfolio.  His job now includes government relations, European Union interface, media relations, the regions and information strategy. Simon is also a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Westminster where he teaches employee relations module to master’s degree students and organisational behaviour to undergraduates

Vince Toman:
Prior to becoming a Barrister, Vince worked in industry where he had first-hand experience in collective employment law: as a Shop Steward; an adviser to independent trade unions; and an employment lawyer for a leading trade union firm of solicitors.  Having then worked for a number of years in the Employment Department of a large city practice, he joined Lewis Silkin in January 2001.  He has appeared on television as an expert on collective employment issues and produced a video on Collective Employment Rights.  Vince is head of the collective employment group at Lewis Silkin and as such has advised on a large number of Information and Consultation Regulation matters, as well as European Work Council issues.  Vince has been involved in a number of statutory as well as voluntary recognition trade union matters.  Vince also has experience in health and safety issues, including disaster management and corporate manslaughter.

Sean Dempsey has been a solicitor in Lewis Silkin's Employment and Incentives department since 2001 and advises a wide range of employer clients on all aspects of employment law, particularly in relation to employment litigation and collective rights.  Sean is an Accredited Mediator and regularly appears before Employment Tribunals on behalf of his clients. He also writes for various professional publications and regularly runs training sessions for HR professionals.
