Masterclass: Organisational Resilience Through Change

The day will be led by Lane4 Director, Dr. Austin Swain and Head of Organisational Development, Tom Smith.
Speakers
Dr. Austin Swain received a Ph.D. in Performance Psychology from Loughborough University in 1992. Whilst at Loughborough, he coached the University Rugby 1st XV to three British University Championships and also published extensively in the areas of competitive stress, mental preparation for performance and group cohesion.
Between 1994-1997, Austin worked as a psychologist to the England Rugby Union team and assisted with their preparation for the 1995 World Cup in South Africa. He is also an accredited sport psychologist with the British Olympic Association.
Austin joined Lane4 in 1997 and is now a member of the Board. His recent clients include Coca-Cola Enterprises, ExxonMobil, Deutsche Bank, 3M, CRH and HSBC Bank.
Austin’s key areas of focus include board level facilitation and 1:1 coaching, leadership development and organisational change.
Tom Smith is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist and Head of Organisational Development at Lane4.
Prior to joining Lane4, Tom had a varied career including working for the Prison Department in the assessment of dangerousness and risk in offenders and the development of the National Hostage Negotiation Programme. Most latterly, Tom was the Global Head of Learning and Development at HSBC Bank.
Tom is published and presents regularly at international conferences within the field of occupational psychology, specifically focusing on assessment and organisational change.
Tom’s recent clients include JPMorgan, City Link, Chase Manhattan Bank, Coca-Cola Enterprises and Boots. His key areas of focus include organisational development, talent assessment and development, employee engagement and the human side of mergers and acquisitions.

Gary Ashton is a Director of ER Consultants who leads the Organisation Change practice. He has consulted across both public sector and private sector, including the manufacturing, retailing, telecommunications, banking, leisure, transport, food and postal industries. The projects he has conducted include re-designing and implementing organisation structures and management processes, Board effectiveness assessment & development, post-merger integration, improving joint venture organisation capability, and Board and senior management team development.
Gary has run a number of events around Organisational Change for HR and OD Directors.
Fiona Ellis is a Director of Bath Consultancy Group and an experienced consultant, coach and designer of development workshops. She has a strong, calm, facilitative style, and enjoys working closely to support internal consultants, drawing on her own ten years experience as an internal consultant.
She consults to a range of organisations across the private and public sectors, working in leadership development, culture change, whole systems transformation, HR development, action learning and team development.
She has worked internationally for clients in the oil industry, television, telecoms, and financial services and in the UK public sector with government and health departments.
Having been a practising HR manager early in her career in private sector.Fiona has strong experience of developing HR professionals in Nokia,Amersports.,Shell,and several government departments in the uk She has an MS.c in Change Strategies & Skills and has worked with HR Business partners on their change facilitation skills. Fiona leads Bath >Consultancy 's practice in HR development.
Nick Holley is Director of the HR Centre of Excellence at Henley Management College. He brings to this role a unique background that combines experience as an army officer, ten years as a successful futures and foreign exchange broker with Merrill Lynch and sixteen years in senior organisational, leadership and people development roles in large global organisations. Nick has been involved in creating and managing large scale organisational change, leadership and people development programmes and performance management processes and systems but his real expertise lies in embedding them in day to day operations.
James Meachin is a Chartered Occupational Pychologist specialising in Assessment, Development and Organisational Change at Pearn Kandola. An experienced coach and change practitioner, James has worked has worked with a wide range of public and private sector organisations including BT, PwC, Sainsburys, the Police Service of Northern Ireland , the NHS and the Department for Work and Pensions.
Carolyn Reed started her HR career in the hotel industry working for both Hilton Hotels and The Forte Group.
She then changed industry to the retail sector working for Debenhams as a Personnel and Training Manager during the demerger with the Burton Group.
Moving next into the travel sector, Carolyn worked for First Choice Holidays as their Group Management Development Manager.
In the past 6 years she has worked for Norwich Union (part of the AVIVA group) in a variety of roles, her most recent as Director of HR Change Consultancy. In this role she was responsible for overseeing and delivering all the HR aspects of major business change, most notably the reduction of 4000 staff with a £100 million cost saving in 2007. She was also responsible for developing an HR change consultancy practice across the UK.
Carolyn has had a career that has focused both on change in organisations and individuals, especially by coaching, gaining a masters degree in Coaching and Mentoring in September 2003.
Carolyn is now the HR Business Partner for Norwich Union Healthcare.
Grahame Russell joined the Ford Graduate Training programme from Leeds University Grahame and spent 7 years in various sales and operations roles before consolidating his management development experience as Head of Training & Development for UCB Group plc – part of the Paribas group. Subsequently he became HR Director before moving into consultancy in a small/medium sized, but international consultancy where he headed up the OD practice in what was a Financial Services consultancy. From there he moved to KPMG Consulting where he became a Director, before moving on to Penna
Consultancy experience - Grahame has worked in OD consulting in Europe, the US, Asia, Australia and South Africa as well as in the UK. He has worked on a number of EMEA wide projects focusing on organisational strategy, HR Transformation and change management.
Grahame now heads up the whole HR Consulting Services function for Penna Plc.
Penny Tamkin joined The Work Foundation in April 2007 after 13 years at IES. Over that period she has undertaken a wide range of projects with employers, employer bodies and policy clients. She has just taken up a new role as Programme Director Management and Leadership Research at The Work Foundation, before that she was an Associate Director at the Institute for Employment Studies where she managed the Employer research team undertaking research and research based consultancy assignments for employers and employer bodies.

Andrew Sparke has been the Chief Executive of Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council since February 1998. Apart from a brief period working in the Print Shop at B.P. prior to qualification as a Solicitor, his career has been spent within local government. His employers have included South Hams District Council, Derby City Council, Kingston upon Hull City Council and the London Borough of Enfield and before moving to Dudley he was Lincoln City Council's Chief Executive and Town Clerk. From 1998 to 2005 in addition to his duties for Dudley, he was also Clerk to the West Midlands Police Authority.
Judy Willmott is Human Resource Manager at Pentax U.K. Limited, has more than 10 years experience of managing HR in SME’s within the IT service and optical technology sectors. Pentax has undergone an extensive restructuring programme the last three years, and since joining the company in 2005 Judy has worked closely with senior management in effecting major transformational change. During this period, Judy has introduced best practice, particularly in personnel development, and she has successfully implemented strategic HR practice as the business enabler for change.
