Dr Peter Reilly, director, HR research and consultancy, Institute for Employment Studies
Peter leads the IES work on reward, and has published reports on reward, human resource planning, HR shared services and outsourcing. He has also written numerous articles and books on these subjects, and gives consultancy support to organisations on issues concerning HR strategy, planning and resourcing, retention, workforce structures and organisation, trends in personnel management, performance management and reward. He joined the IES in 1995 after a 16 year career with Shell. Prior to this, Peter was a senior research officer with the British Institute of Management.
Julie Naismith, principal, Towers Perrin Executive Compensation and Rewards practice
Julie is the leader of the rewards team at the London office of Towers Perrin, where she helps clients to deliver business results through people. Her expertise lies in developing performance and reward systems that reflect the requirements of high performing organisations.
She specialises in total reward management and performance management including strategy, base pay development and job evaluation, incentive and bonus design, line of sight reward systems and individual performance management.
Chris Holme, associate director, employment and pensions team, Barlow Lyde and Gilbert LLP
Chris is an associate director in the employment team at Barlow Lyde and Gilbert LLP, an international law firm with its base in London. He has specialised in all areas of employment law since 2002, and his wide-ranging experience includes employment tribunal litigation, high court litigation, corporate transactions and outsourcings, TUPE, employee and executive recruitment and dismissals, collective matters including redundancies, and union recognition. He is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association, writes regular articles for a number of publications, and speaks regularly at internal and external seminars.

Helen has spent over 25 years working in the fields of reward strategy and performance management. Her consulting career started in 1985. For the last 13 years at the Hay Group, Helen has played leading roles in the reward, performance management and public sector practices. She trains Hay Group consultants nationally and internationally in reward strategy and related issues, is a past chair of the CIPD Reward Forum and former vice president, pay and employment conditions. Helen continues to teach, write and publish regularly on total reward and performance issues and also works as an executive coach.

Rob has enjoyed a 14-year career in business journalism at Reed Business Information, culminating in the role of group editor of Personnel Today, the market-leading weekly HR magazine and community website. In 2007 Rob moved into publishing management developing the company’s e-mail newsletter business, comprising 40 products across 11 markets. His product portfolio more recently increased in size following RBI’s acquisition of CELRE, the salary survey specialists. CELRE are experts in participation-based pay and benefits surveys, with particular strengths in the IT and not-for-profit sectors.
Vincent Welsh, Senior Human Resources Officer – Buckinghamshire County Council
Vince is member of the CIPD and has worked in local government for three years.
As a member of Buckinghamshire’s organisational development team he is responsible for employee benefits, reward and recognition, chairing the corporate Investors in People steering group, developing internal equalities forums and supporting the deliver of the council’s corporate road shows.
Prior to joining the council he spent 22 years in the Royal Air Force as a personnel administrator in a wide range roles including training and development, pay and conditions, employee relations and recruitment.
Andrew Clark, Head of Reward, John Lewis Partnership
Andrew has worked for John Lewis Partnership for 18 years.. The business has an annual turnover of nearly £6.8bn and 69,000 employees or “partners”. He has carried out a variety of commercial and human resources roles, moving into the department store division's head office in 2001.
In 2003 he took up the position of head of personnel operations for the John Lewis division, where he introduced a new performance related pay system. In his current role he is responsible for the Partnership's reward strategy and the Leisure Service - which includes five hotels for Partners only, four yachts and over 130 social clubs.
